By-The-Bay Garden Club of Suttons Bay
Founded in 2009, the mission of our club is "to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening; aid in the protection of native trees, plants, and birds; and participate in community beautification." Membership is open to anyone in Suttons Bay or the surrounding area who wishes to regularly participate in our activities and gain the friendship, knowledge, and support of other gardeners. Annual dues are $35.00. Others who want to contribute to our club's mission are welcome to become a 'Friend of the Garden Club' by making an annual contribution in any amount.
Current beautification projects include planting and maintaining the village flower pots, maintaining the Blue Star Memorial Garden in Herman Park* which we installed in 2020, and decorating the village with greens at Christmas. Past projects include designing and planting garden beds at the Marina Boathouse, planting grasses for erosion control at Marian Shoreline, restoring the peace garden at the Montessori School, and planting daffodil bulbs throughout the village.
Each June, we award a $1000 scholarship to a Suttons Bay area student who is pursuing a college degree in a field compatible with our club's mission. Contact us for an application.
We meet the second Monday of each month (except March, July, and August) usually at the Suttons Bay Fire Hall. We enjoy a social gathering from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. followed by a guest speaker who presents a program from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. A business meeting is held from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. The public is welcome. There is no cost. Please contact us to confirm the meeting location.
*Customized memorial bricks for the Blue Star Memorial Garden are available for purchase through the club. Please email us for more information.
